WiFi problems range from "completely down" to "fine for an hour, then drops every five minutes" — and the cause is almost never just one thing. Routers, drivers, DNS, ISP issues, signal interference, and old saved network profiles all conspire to break wireless connections. A remote tech can diagnose your specific symptom (yes, even if your WiFi is currently down — your phone hotspot or another device works fine for the session) and walk you through the right fix. Most cases resolve in under 30 minutes.
$79 per 30-minute session · No contract · You watch every action
Fast response
Typical response within minutes during business hours.
Encrypted CyberDesk session
End-to-end encrypted. Removable at session end. You watch the whole time.
No contract, no upsell
$79 for the session. If we cannot help, we tell you upfront.
Real, useful steps to try before you book. If they do not resolve it, the next sections explain what is actually wrong and how a remote session fixes it.
Unplug both for a full 60 seconds, then plug the modem in first. Wait until its lights stabilize, then plug in the router. This alone resolves about 40% of "no WiFi" problems.
If your phone connects fine but your laptop will not, the problem is on the laptop. If nothing connects, the router or modem is the suspect.
On Windows, Settings → Network & Internet → Wi-Fi → Manage known networks. On macOS, System Settings → Wi-Fi → Details → Forget. Re-enter the password fresh.
Sometimes the connection works but websites do not load. Switch DNS to 1.1.1.1 / 8.8.8.8 to rule out ISP DNS failure.
Common WiFi failures: ISP outage (check downdetector.com or call your provider), router firmware bug or memory leak (most home routers need a restart every few months), full DHCP pool (too many devices ever connected), bad or outdated wireless driver on Windows, DNS misconfiguration, IPv6 issues that hang specific sites, channel interference from neighbors (especially on 2.4 GHz in apartments), stale network profile with cached wrong password, MTU mismatch from a recent ISP change, a failing power supply on the router (very common after 3-5 years), or simply distance — WiFi signal drops fast through walls and floors. A surprising number of home networks also still run on default router admin passwords, which can let unrelated devices on the network hog the connection.
Your tech connects from another device (phone hotspot, secondary computer) through CyberDesk and walks through the network stack methodically: ipconfig / netstat / ping checks, driver status, saved profile review, DNS resolution test, signal strength readings, router admin login (with your permission) to check firmware version, channel, and connected device list. We also check whether IPv6 is causing your problem (very common). At the end we either fix it during the session or, if the router itself is dying, give you a clear recommendation for the right replacement at the right price point — no upsell.
CyberDesk encrypted remote session
One-click connect. No software stays on your machine after the session unless you choose to keep it.
You stay in control
See your screen the whole time. End the session in one click. We document what we did when the session ends.
We connect from a working device — we are not asking you to fix your WiFi while your WiFi is broken. If we cannot resolve it remotely (rare, usually means the router is physically failing), we tell you what to buy and how to set it up. No contracts, $79 for the 30-minute session.
We connect from a different device — your phone hotspot, a tablet, or another computer on the network. The remote-session software runs on a working device while we diagnose the broken one. If absolutely nothing in your home is online, we can walk you through router troubleshooting by phone first to get one device online for the session.
The router is fine — the problem is on the laptop. Most likely a wireless driver, saved network profile, or Windows network stack issue. These resolve in 15-20 minutes on a screen-share once we see the actual error.
Common causes: aging router that needs a firmware update or replacement, channel interference from neighbors (especially on 2.4 GHz in dense buildings), a flaky wireless driver, or your laptop power-saving settings turning the radio off. We check all of these in a single session.
Not always. We test what you have first. If the router is genuinely the bottleneck (signal weakness, dying hardware, no support for current standards), we recommend a specific replacement at a reasonable price — no commission, no upsell.
Yes. Mesh systems have their own quirks (placement, backhaul, channel selection). We have set up dozens. The same $79 / 30-minute session applies.
